All right, all right, all right.
I know I’m not supposed to be blogging this month, so don’t consider this a blog post – consider this my “happiness postcard” to all of you who wrote such lovely comments last night . . .
Ted told me before we went to bed that it was snowing, and Bear came in from his last potty break with a few flakes of snow in his fur. I didn’t think much of it because we’ve had a few flakes flying in the last few days, and they never amounted to anything.
Then Ted woke me up this morning with, “You need to go look outside. You got your wish!”
Oh. My. Goodness.

We didn’t have time to take it all in because we were scurrying around with last minute details, waiting on the 8 a.m. taxi. Once on board I tried to snap away as we rode down Cadotte, but I was having to take pics in between the weather flaps. But still . . . .

Lots of folks leaving this morning, but most were just going off-island for groceries or appointments. Everyone was VERY surprised by the snow and hoping it was a good omen for what the winter would bring. Me too!

I can’t believe it. I’ve waited five years to see a snowfall before we headed south, and even though it came on our leaving day, I couldn’t have been any more excited. I don’t think I stopped grinning until we got to Gaylord!
We’ve stopped in a little town in Ohio – Wapakoneta – at a very nice and clean Best Western that is pet friendly. On to Atlanta tomorrow, then home on Sunday.

Hilde – have to stay awake to do the last doggie potty breaks. Ted is sound asleep. He is sick (has been for two days, but has just kept on going). He had to drive all day except for about 1 1/2 hours – that’s all I could do without falling asleep at the wheel. So basically I have slept all day while he’s driven. I am now wide awake (and probably will be all night, and he is exhausted, poor sweetie.
I KNEW you would be snapping pictures as fast as you could while Ted was dragging you away from Mackinac.

It was beautiful this morning. The snow didn’t last long. It was gone by mid-afternoon. Hopefully, this was just the first of many mornings waking up to a winter wonderland (just hope the snowmobile gets here before the snow sticks around.
Cathy, was on the boat this morning with an island resident going across to buy a snowmobile.

I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now and knew you wanted to see snow before you left this year, so when I logged onto Facebook this morning and saw a picture the Grand Hotel had posted, I knew you would be so excited! 🙂 Praying for you all as you head south.

Oh, Brenda, I’m so tickled for you about the snow! Maybe it was a reward for being such a good blogger this summer.
Some day we should compare the (hundreds!) photos we’ve both taken coming and going on the island. It would have to involve food, because it would take so long! I bet some of mine would be considered historical by now. . .
I’ve been thinking of you off and on all day, and sending up prayers as you go along. You may see more snow before you get home – I think they had some in the mountains. So, safe travels, a good night’s sleep, and health for Ted. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ps – I sleep in cars, too. Have since I was a baby, so I’m told.

Thank you so much for the “postcard.” When I heard that it had snowed in the Straits area, I just knew I would be able to read something from you, but so many pictures are a surprise. I should have known. I’m glad you got your snow, but I’m also glad we didn’t get any in southern Michigan. Many years ago, we always had a big snowstorm at Thanksiving time. Although, I know you would like it, I don’t think I want the weather to revert to past patterns.
We’ve seen the sign for Wapakoneta, but we’ve never stopped there. Faye had an ancester who lived, and is buried in, Wapanucka, Oklahoma. I wonder if those two are brothers. Continue with your safe journey south. Tell Jason & Blair and Blake I said Hi. It seems like I know them (at least a little).

Thank you so much for your postcard! I’ve been looking at pics of the snow all morning, starting with the Horn’s camera. Some were just lovely (especially the Mission Point ones) but what I loved about your series was the feeling of excitement as you snapped all the way down the road and through the harbor!

What a wonderful treat to see the Island all snow covered. Truly unusual and special. I know it must have been super cold so not great for all the work of leaving, but the perfect end-of-season sendoff nonetheless. Hope you have a safe trip back to Georgia.
I saw the pictures on facebook and so hoped you got to see the snow! I think God sent you a smile yesterday morning – His fingerprints were all over the island. The pictures were AWESOME and let me have that one last magical moment of the season, too. Thanks again, Brenda!!
Thank you for sharing! The first snow is always magical. I don’t think I’ve shared with you, besides living in Chicago we have a weekend home in LaPorte, IN. It is in the snowbelt due to the lake effect from Lake Michigan. This time of the year I often watch the weather report, since it is only an hour away drive out with hopes of being there for the first snow. The child within always smiles ear to ear when this happens! So happy you got your wish before leaving the island. Safe travels to you and Ted. Gail

How exciting to get your wish. It’s sort of like waking up on Christmas morning, to see the new fallen snow. Please feel free to take it with you. It’s too soon. Must admit, it does look pretty.

No, John. We’re already in Georgia and will be for Thanksgiving AND Christmas. I’m hoping the Island gets lots of snow this winter. If it does, I’m thinking about flying up for a few days.
