All Around the Town 6/2/2011

One of the nicest things about stopping in at the Island Bookstore is hanging around long enough to see who else will show up. This day Bonnie walked in first, then Joan with grandson Jordan. Jill took the pic!

Ted and I spotted Nancy (with her bike) giving Jane some advice on where to plant flowers at Hart's. So, of course, we stopped and gave some advice too!

Lunch at the Seabiscuit Cafe is always fun. Tried their new Lobster BLT - Oh yeah! Will be having that again!

Not many things can make Ted abandon the street when he's biking, but a trio of 2,000 lb. horses will do it every time.

See you tomorrow with all the news from this week – and good grief, there is a LOT of it!

And . . . . along with the news on Friday morning, I’m introducing a new weekly feature to Bree’s Blog.  After nearly three summers of photographs from every conceivable spot on the island, it’s time to find out if my readers have been paying attention!

Make sure you bring a BIG mug of steaming hot coffee with you to your computer Friday morning cause I’ve got a ton of stuff to talk about.  Oh, go ahead.  Throw a couple of donuts on a napkin, and bring those too!

  1. I can’t wait till Friday morning! I follow both your blogs! You do great job. Thank you for all the hard work you do on the blog it is appreciated so much!

  2. Thank you for bringing Mackinac Island to those of us who long to travel to your beautiful spot! The ether-neighborhood is wonderful indeed. Look forward to return visits!

  3. Ok, you’ve talked me into it…coffee and donuts! Who can resist! 😉
We discovered the best donuts last weekend on the island.
At the Murray hotel…maple glazed, vanilla glazed, chocolate glazed, cinnamon-sugar…oh my…homemade each morning! And only 50 cents! We had those SEVERAL times while there, LOL! We’ll be stopping in for more of those next month when we come back! 😉

  4. Is it alright if I bring my tea and donuts to the Friday morning get together? I can’t wait for our trip to the island and the bookstore is one of my favorite places to visit.

  5. Well, aren’t you a tease!
I keep adding places I must visit on the island to my mental list every time I read your columns.

  6. I will definitely have my coffee — going to the store today and will pick up some donuts – sounds like a great idea!

  7. Brenda,

I’ll be looking forward to Friday morning with my coffee. However, I’ll have to forego the doughnuts. Hope you don’t mind, but a piece of toast will have to do.

We’ve been without electricity for a few days after a terrible storm. Sure missed your blog, but I’m back now and caught up. Part of my growing up years were with an outhouse and a pump. Never thought I’d wish for those things again.

    • Oh no, Lowell! You must have gotten the storm we were SUPPOSED to get here on the island. Glad you’re back!

  8. Sounds like I’ll have to make a stop at Martha’s to get a blueberry muffin for tomorrow morning….can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!

  9. Ohhh I’m as excited as everyone else for tomorrow morning! I’m going to skip the donuts too but I will definitly have the coffee. Love the pictures, as always. Hmmm can’t remember a picture I didn’t like now that I think about it. 🙂

    • Hilde,

You are right. Every picture is great. And such good writing. I still think Brenda has the best blog on the net.

      • Ssssh don’t tell anyone Lowell, but Brenda’s blogs are the only one I read on a daily basis. 🙂

  10. I have got to find out where I can get some gluten free donuts now!! I’m trying to stick to my new diet. Must admit I am feeling better. I have to ck out a bakery near me that does make the bread…………… wonder if desserts are possible, and if they would be tasty!! Melody, you are killing me!!! Maple, yum, one of my very favorites, among my many favorites!!!

You ladies look soooo happy, I’m really missing the island. Hope to get up there with my sister, daughter and granddaughters next year, and meet all of you! That would be a real blast! As always, enjoyed the photos.

  11. how nice to see my sister-in-law Bonnie standing next to you at the book store; and of course good friend Joan! I really miss those kinds of “get-togethers” on the island, and of course all the “planned” ones, too;) but have to say, your blog is the closest thing I’ve seen to being there, and am looking forward to tomorrow too:)

  12. Thanks for the tip on the Salmon BLT! Can’t wait to try it…Can’t wait for tomorrow’s post too! Hopefully my phone and email will stay quiet while I’m reading this time. For a short week it sure seems long….

  13. Don’t forget to look for my book which is now available at the wonderful Island Bookstore. I will be on the island July 26th for a signing, hope to be able to meet you.

    • I’ll be here at well with a Coke in hand, sorry not a coffee drinker. I too have added places to visit on the island from reading your blog. I never knew until last year that there was stairs up to Fort Holmes.

Lowell, glad that your power is restored. We had an F1 tornado right by our condo and up rooted 3 of our 3 pine trees. These storms this spring has been amazing. I hope it calms down soon.

  14. I am offically retired as of today! More time on the computer, oh no! I love keeping up with the happenings on the island in addition to the Town Crier. My daughter Jenelle is a fan also.
I love your tips on good food and places to visit. I am counting down the days until we come for little over a week for our 40th Anniversary at the Jacob Wendell House.
As the date gets closer I will check with you to see when you will be at the musem so we can introduce ourselves.
