Friday Free-For-All 6/4/2010

What a week this has been!  We’ve been so busy I’m in shock that it’s Friday already!   

Today was no different.  I had lunch with friends downtown, visited Ted at the Visitor’s Center on his first day of volunteer work for the Mackinac Historic State Parks, took a long walk with Jill, Bear and Maddie late in the afternoon, and cooked dinner (a good old Southern meal of country fried steak, rice and gravy, and fresh green beans from Doud’s).  Now it’s almost 8 o’clock, and the sun is nowhere close to setting.  Up here, the sky doesn’t finally grow dark until almost 11 p.m., and you’d really forget it’s time for bed if you weren’t so tired from being in constant motion all day.  It’s a great way to feel at the end of the day – not stressed out, not emotionally drained – just physically tired and ready for a good night’s sleep.  No meds necessary, thank you very much. 

To close out the week, I’m just going to share some random photos I’ve taken over the last few days that didn’t fit in anywhere else.  Hope you enjoy!

I didn't actually take this photo, but I met Mary Lou Peters coming out of the Victorian Summer Gallery a few days ago. Ted and I were going in as she was coming out, and she said, "I know you! You're Bree!" She is one of the artists who will be painting outside the gallery during the summer, and her beautiful watercolors are on display at the gallery. I love her work and had admired it in the past. So nice to meet the artist!

The first group of scouts arrive on the island. A different Michigan scout troop (both boys and girls) spends a week on the island throughout the season. The scouts are responsible for the raising and lowering of the flags, and they work downtown at the historic buildings.

   

The lilacs in front of our condo are almost in full bloom. Beautiful to look at and heavenly to smell!

Judy and I met Darrell when he rode up the hill with us on the taxi this afternoon. He had just arrived on the island from Amsterdam and will be playing the piano nightly at the Iroquois Hotel.

Ferns soak up a little sun through the trees, along the pathway to Anne's Tablet.

This cruise boat arrived today from New York and all points along the way. It's final destination is Chicago.

Another busy weekend coming up, and next week our first company of the season arrives – Cathie and Charlie from New Orleans.  We are so excited that they are returning this year!
