What a week this has been! We’ve been so busy I’m in shock that it’s Friday already!
Today was no different. I had lunch with friends downtown, visited Ted at the Visitor’s Center on his first day of volunteer work for the Mackinac Historic State Parks, took a long walk with Jill, Bear and Maddie late in the afternoon, and cooked dinner (a good old Southern meal of country fried steak, rice and gravy, and fresh green beans from Doud’s). Now it’s almost 8 o’clock, and the sun is nowhere close to setting. Up here, the sky doesn’t finally grow dark until almost 11 p.m., and you’d really forget it’s time for bed if you weren’t so tired from being in constant motion all day. It’s a great way to feel at the end of the day – not stressed out, not emotionally drained – just physically tired and ready for a good night’s sleep. No meds necessary, thank you very much.
To close out the week, I’m just going to share some random photos I’ve taken over the last few days that didn’t fit in anywhere else. Hope you enjoy!
Another busy weekend coming up, and next week our first company of the season arrives – Cathie and Charlie from New Orleans. We are so excited that they are returning this year!
Have a wonderful weekend, whatever your plans, and I hope you pop back in here Saturday and Sunday morning for a picture or two. God bless.
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening translated through you into action. Because there is only one you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through any other and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good or valuable it is nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open.” . . . (via Celeste Brady) Spoken to Agnes de Mille by Martha Graham as a motivation to continue dancing, but to me it seems to speak as motivation to anyone with something inside that begs to be heard or seen.
Awww Maddie looks so sweet laying on the bed all tuckered out. Interesting people to read about and more beautiful photos – thanks so much for sharing with us!! Happy Friday!!
Brenda,
Because you have given me so much enjoyment on your blog, I hesitate to do it , but I’m going to ask a favor of you. When you’re going down Cadotte, would you take a picture of the William Backhouse Astor house with the lilacs in bloom and post the picture in your blog?
Be sure to give my greetings to Cathie & Charlie when they arrive on The Island. Then listen to them say, “Who?”
Those poppies are gorgeous. I remember my brother & I picked some to take in the house to my grandmother. We thought we were doing something so nice. Of course, we were only about 3 & 4 at the time.
After seeing Maddie on the quilt, I realize she must think about the same way I do. She sure looks comfortable.
I might already have one on my camera card, Lowell, and if not – I will get one today! I would be delighted to post it for you – look for it Saturday morning. As for Cathie and Charlie, they will know exactly who Lowell is because they read the blog every day AND the comments. Have a great weekend!
Just try keeping me away Saturday and Sunday, I’ll be here! Love the picture of Maddie and the Lady Slippers. Both, so cute and delicate looking 😉
Have a great weekend!
Sounds like a FUN BLOG to take requests from readers…what photo spot they would like to see!!! THAT will keep you hoppin Bree.
Your ‘random’ photos fit in here so nicely. They’re some of the lovely little things about the island that make it so special!
Your Maddie is adorable! Those short little legs get quite a work out on the island!
I loved this post. I really like random photos. The lady slippers picture is great. The only time i have ever seen those was on the island last year.
And of course the picture of Maddy was great! I love sleeping dog pictures! Have a great weekend.
Hi Bree! Cute picture of Maddie! The pictures are so great also! I really enjoy reading your blog and the cool pictures that you put up! This is such a treat each evening! I am going to look for you on the Island at the end of June. And also Jill @ the book store!
Hope to see you when you’re here, Michelle!
Hi Bree! What a surprise to see my photo on your blog! When I met you at Victorian Summer Gallery I had just finished a three-hour painting demo out in front–something I hope to be doing many times this summer. What a kick to meet you at the end of a perfect summer day doing what I enjoy most! I’m glad you enjoy my artwork–thanks for the compliment!
Thanks for reading my blog, Mary Lou! Hope to see you many more times this summer!
Bree, enjoying your blog!! I was re- reading my Historic Cottages book – on pg 44the map shows the West Bluff Cottages. Does Pontiac Trail and West Bluff Road meet on the Grand Hotel drive way? That is how I remember it. Cottage #9 Cliff Cottage is right next door to the Grand right??? If I am right – than I can’t figure out how West Bluff Rd continues – I thought the Golf Course is the area where #8 down to 1 is.
Also: What is the name of the hill that leads to the Condo’s and what Rd. are the condo’s on?
I have seen it all – but I am trying to place it correctly on the map.
Love you!
Your dog Maddie is cute! Your quilt looks familiar, did you get it at the Fort?
Pat
Yes I did, Pat. Good eye!
