A Favor to Ask 9/15/09

No pictures today.  I just want to talk to you about something that has been on my heart and mind lately.

Over the summer, and especially the last couple of months, I’ve been asked by quite a few people if I would consider publishing some part of this blog in book form.  I have been investigating self-publishing and some other avenues, and all of that is something for me to work on (and a good extra project for the winter months in Georgia).

I know that I couldn’t use everything that I have written – as of today, that would be 124 stories and well over 1,000 photos.  I was thinking maybe I could pick the best 30 (that’s a random number – maybe less, maybe more).  I would not be able to use all the photographs – maybe only 2-3 per story.  Much beyond that and the cost of the book would be such that nobody but my husband would buy a copy.

There seems to be an almost unquenchable thirst for information about what it’s like to actually live on Mackinac Island from the people who visit here.  And I’ve been told that a book of this type hasn’t been done in a long, long time. 

This blog, of course, would continue on.  I love doing it, and I love hearing from my readers.  You have become my extended family, and that is why I guess I feel comfortable asking you to be my online “editors”.

So here is the favor.  Sometime in the next week or so, when you have nothing else to do (I hear you laughing out there!), would you drop me a line either in the comment section or to brendasumnerhorton@hotmail.com and tell me which of the blogs you particularly like.  It could be done by subject i.e. history, flowers, horses, Bear & Maddie, the woods, the cottages, etc.,  or by individual blog titles.  (As you scroll down the page, there is an “Archive” section on the right-hand side with all the blogs saved there.  You just have to select a month, and they will all be listed.)  Your opinions of what you like to read about will give me a starting point for the direction I want to go with this.

I know I am asking a lot, and many of you just won’t have time to do this – and I understand perfectly.  If you do have time, and the willingness to help out with this project,  I would so appreciate your input. 

I’d love to preserve in some way this love of writing and photography that I have finally begun to express in my “senior years”.  The peace and joy doing this brings me is so hard to explain, but I plan to keep trying.   And hopefully, my “musings” (as my son calls them) bring a little peace and joy your way in the process.
